Privacy Policy

This policy explains what NovelTake Media LLC (“NovelTake,” “we”) collects when you use the NovelTake website and apps, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what we need to run NovelTake, we don’t sell your data, we don’t show ads, and you can delete your account at any time.

What we collect

When you make an account

• Your email address and password. Passwords are stored securely by our sign-in provider; we never see them
• Confirmation that you are 13 or older, and when you confirmed it. We don’t ask for your date of birth
• Your username, and details that build up as you use NovelTake: founder number, standing, tier, titles, credits and credit history, cosmetic items, and which referral link brought you, if any

What you do on NovelTake

• Takes, replies, matchups and Ws you post or give
• Your votes on takes and matchups
• Reports you make, and people you block
• Your settings, such as whether you want activity emails

If you vote without an account

• A random ID stored in your browser, so your vote counts once and can be changed. It isn’t linked to your name or email
• The referral code of the link you arrived from, if any

How NovelTake is used

• A record of the days you visit, the first page you visited that day, and the referral code you arrived with, so we can understand whether people come back
• Anonymous usage statistics through Vercel Analytics, such as pages viewed, the site that sent you, your device type and country. This doesn’t use cookies and isn’t linked to your account
• Error reports through Sentry when something breaks, including the page, the error and your browser or device type. We’ve set this up to avoid collecting personal details such as IP addresses

In our apps

• If you allow notifications, a device token that lets us send notifications to your phone, and which type of phone it is

What we don’t collect

We don’t collect your precise location, contacts, photos, or payment details. We don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and we don’t use advertising cookies.

How we use it

• To run NovelTake: your account, posting, voting, scoring, standing, titles, credits and leaderboards
• To notify you about replies, results, titles and milestones, by email and, if you allow it, push notification
• To keep NovelTake safe: moderating reports, filtering abusive language, enforcing limits on posting, and preventing manipulation and fake accounts
• To understand and improve NovelTake, including which creators’ links bring people who stay
• To contact you about your account or changes to our terms

What’s public

Your username, founder number, standing, tier, titles, cosmetic items, and the takes, replies and matchups you post are public. Your email address, individual votes, reports, blocks, credits history and settings are not. Vote totals and splits on takes and matchups are public, but not who voted which way.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only with services that help us run NovelTake, under agreements that limit how they can use it:

• Supabase: our database and sign-in
• Vercel: hosting, and anonymous analytics
• Resend: sending emails
• Sentry: error reports
• Apple: delivering push notifications to iPhones

Creators may see combined, non-identifying numbers about activity through their links, such as how many people voted or joined. We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply.

Cookies and storage on your device

We use cookies to keep you signed in. We also store a few small items in your browser or app: your anonymous voter ID, the referral code you arrived with, whether you’ve already been counted as visiting today, prompts you’ve dismissed, and your device’s notification token. None of these are used for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, your account and the content you posted are permanently deleted, though copies may remain in backups for a limited period before being overwritten. Votes you cast without an account stay counted in results. Error reports are kept for a limited time by Sentry.

Your choices and rights

• Change your username, and turn activity emails on or off, from your profile
• Turn push notifications off in your phone’s settings
• Block people, and report content
• Delete your account from Settings on your profile
• Email us to ask for a copy of your information, or to correct it

Depending on where you live, you may have further rights over your personal information, such as to access, correct, delete or restrict it, or to object to how it’s used. Email us and we’ll respond as the law requires. We don’t sell or share personal information for targeted advertising.

Children

NovelTake is not for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we’ll delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard protections, including encrypted connections and access controls on our database. No service is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password you don’t use anywhere else.

Where your information is stored

Our services are based in the United States. If you use NovelTake from elsewhere, your information is processed in the US.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes, we’ll let you know, for example by a notice on NovelTake or by email, and update the date at the top.
